With significant back issues I was finding it hard to stand for an entire gig while playing bass. The instrument can be heavy and after an hour or more of solid playing I can really feel it. In addition, it can be difficult to transport all my gear (in my case a bass, amp, gig bag, and mic stand) as it is. Adding a full size stool to the mix made it just too much hassle. What I needed was something that was easy to transport, lightweight to carry, and a solid support while I played. The two leg pieces are each less than an inch thick. The footrest and seat are less than two inches each. This makes it possible to stack in your car without taking up much room. The legs, seat, and footrest all have slots in them that attach quickly and easily to form the stool. Once all four pieces are connected together, the stool is very strong and sturdy. For carrying with one hand, I find it easier to carry the stool assembled. To do this, I grab the front of the two leg pieces between the seat and footrest. The leg pieces are tapered so you will find somewhere between the seat and footrest where the distance between the legs make it easy to grab.
